Ingredients

1500ml Warm milk full fat
250 gr All purpose flour
200 gr Butter or you can use margarine
1 cup Kefalotiri cheese grated
1 Egg yolk
to taste Salt,Pepper
1/4 tsp Nutmeg optional

This is my homemade béchamel sauce! Ialways make homemade because I don’t like the box.! It is perfect for greek recipes such as moussaka or pastitsio!

Many people add nutmeg in béchamel but it is optional! It taste 100% better than the box.

In a sauce pan add the butter and in medium low temperature let it melt.

Add the flour and using a whisk whisk it so that the flour is mixed with the butter.

Add the milk slowly and continue whisking.Increase the temperature at medium high and continue to stir until it gets thicker.

Add salt,pepper and kefalotiri. Continue to stir and add the egg yolk.Stir again and it is ready to use it!
